How do I choose a PR agency for my fintech company?

The short answer

Choose an agency that knows your corner of fintech, can show recent coverage for companies at your stage, and tells you plainly who will do the work and how results are reported. SkyParlour has worked with fintech and technology businesses since 2009, and we suggest asking every agency on your shortlist the same questions, us included.

Start with what you need

A challenger raising its first round needs something different from a scale-up chasing bigger buyers, or an established player defending its position. Before you brief anyone, write down the two or three outcomes that matter most this year: a launch, investor attention, enterprise buyers, a place in analysts' research, or being found when buyers ask AI assistants.

Ask every agency the same questions. Us included.

Questions to ask on the shortlist

01

Do you know our sector?

Which journalists, analysts and events cover payments, banking, wealth or insurance, and what they have written about recently.

02

What have you won lately?

Coverage in the last year for companies like yours, not only famous names from years ago.

03

Who does the work?

The people on your account day to day, and how often you will hear from them.

04

How do you report?

What gets measured: coverage, analyst commentary, and how you show up in search and AI answers.

05

What else can you do?

Messaging, content, events and awards, crisis planning. One team keeps the story consistent.

Signs of a good fit

Fintech PR needs sector knowledge, storytelling craft and an understanding of regulation. A good agency challenges your messaging rather than repeating it back, tells you honestly what is newsworthy now and what needs building first, and is easy to work with week to week.

In a client’s words

We’ve been working with SkyParlour for many years now and it’s a very good cultural fit. They have the expertise, they understand us and they anticipate what we want to do, and collaborate closely with us.

Questions people also ask

Should we choose a specialist or a generalist agency?

For most fintech companies, a specialist. Journalists, analysts and buyers in financial services expect accuracy on regulation and technical detail, and a specialist already knows who covers what.

How many agencies should we talk to?

Three or four is usually enough to compare approach, people and price properly.

What should we prepare for a first call?

Your goals for the year, your next few news moments, who your buyers are and what you have tried before. Our first call takes 30 minutes.
